I just want to say thanks to everyone who has posted remixes here!

I was worried when I started this that no one would sign up and that nothing would actually get made! But instead there were results! I will post a masterlist at the DW and IJ comms linking to the things on LJ, since that is where things were posted.

If there's anyone who didn't get it finished in time, as per the original rules I suggest that you ask to make sure permission is still granted by your remixee, but feel free to keep posting new remixes here anytime you make them. Even things for other challenges or for no challenge, so long as they remix something.

Also, if you haven't been crossposting yet, definitely go ahead and do that where ever you please.

Summary: Of the many rivkat Smallville stories I had to choose from, The Presence of Fire has captured my attention with its graphic descriptions every time I've re-read it, yet it ends on a positive note. Rather than attempting to rewrite or add to the story with another POV, I decided to tackle remixing (actually representing) it visually. I've also included some of the thought process behind my choices for the artwork and some of the interim stages of development.

I hope everyone is trucking along with their SV remixes! Remember that posting starts August 15 and ends August 31. I know the SV Big Bang moved their dates back a little, so hopefully that still works for everyone.

Don't be scared if you are nowhere near done. I, uh, haven't really started myself. I should get on that soon, shouldn't I? *shiftyeyes*

Remember, the posting dates are August 15 to August 31.

There were some people who offered their works for remixing without signing up to do a remix, so everyone has been given two (in some cases three) people to look over. Also, everyone has been assigned to two people. The Clex shippers were mostly done by drawing names out of a pile, the het shippers I tried to match up by pairing (though some of you were more unique than others). Hopefully this way you have enough to work with that you will find something that inspires you. (You don't actually have to like something to be inspired by it, as we should all know from dealing with canon, and you are allowed to take a theme or plot and apply it to different characters.) It's also possible to combine multiple pieces by multiple people, if you want, or do multiple remixes, though the only expectation is one. If you have serious problems with your assignment, you can contact me.

I still don't promise that a remix will be made from your stuff, or that you will like the one(s) that are. I would suggest focusing more on what you are doing, rather than what someone else might do with you.

Anyone who's been considering signing up for sv_remix and hasn't done so yet, remember that sign-ups close on the 20th (although really this means they are open until I get up and get online on the 21st (I'm in USA east coast time)).

You can sign up just to offer your work to be remixed (meaning no new effort for you), or just to do a remix (meaning you can join even if you've never done anything in Smallville fandom before), or to do both. So far all the sign-ups have been in the LiveJournal comm, but it's also open on Dreamwidth and InsaneJournal.

Just thought I'd remind all you people who are watching the comm (though if you are just audience members here for the eventual shiny treats, that's okay, too). :)

You may or may not have participated in a remix before, or even heard of one, but I want to do a Smallville fandom specific version. There are going to be a lot fewer limits than remix_redux has, however.

This is open to anyone in Smallville fandom. All genres, characters, pairings, themes, and media are accepted. Fic, art, comics, manips, icons, vids, meta, filk songs, fanmixes, we want it all.

"Remix" is being defined very broadly here. If you can collapse a 100,000-word epic fic into a 6-word ficlet that makes everyone marvel at how well you did it, or vice versa, go for it. If you make a sequel, do the same plot with a different pairing, tell it from the POV of some sentient peanuts, make a vid of a fic, write a fic based on an icon set or a fanmix, draw art for a vid, make a fanmix for a comic, write fic based on a meta essay, throw in some crossover characters, combine three stories into one, write meta about a vid, take photos of peanuts acting out a vid, or "merely" rewrite a fic scene from a different character's POV, whatever, go for it. Just get an idea from your assignment's works, have fun, and try to push your limits! And don't die of peanut allergies.

There will be two levels of sign-up: to remix or to be remixed. You can sign up for one or the other or both.

The requirement for signing up to remix is really just a desire to create SV fanworks.

The requirement to sign up to be remixed is that you must have, publicly posted and easily accessible, at least four (4) Smallville fanworks. Things that count as fanworks: fic, vids, meta essays, fanmixes, icon sets, manips, comics, drawings, other art, etc. Things that do not count as fanworks: episode reviews/reactions/recaps, picspams/screencaps, icons you post with, rec lists, DVD commentaries on things other people created, etc. Co-created works can only be used if both/all creators sign up to be remixed. WIPs are also off-limits, as are works that are already remixes of things by other people.

Length: There is no maximum size. The minimum size is that something must exist.

Process: Sign up using the standard form. If you are remixing, you will be assigned one or two people to work from. Take a look over their works, decide what you want to do, and go for it. There are pretty much no limits on the content of what you create in terms of subject matter (however, don't use items from your assignment's personal life, as posted in their journal, within your remix).

If you are being remixed, please remember that it's not about you. Just as fans come up with all kinds of ideas based on canon, so the remixer can come up with all kinds of ideas based on your work. Inspired by your work. But it's not a reflection of you, it's a reflection of the remixer. There are no guarantees. You may hate what they make. You may love it. There may not actually be a remix of anything by you, if people drop out or something.

If you can't post by the final date, but are in progress on something, please ask your assignment whether you can keep working on it and post it later. There are no penalties at all for not getting something posted within the time span, but I would appreciate being notified. Comm posting will be moderated until August 15 and then opened.
